Aimee Manion
www.aimeemanion.com
Artist, crafter and educator from Pittsburgh, PA, Aimee attended Indiana University of PA and earned a dual-focus BFA in Fine Art - Painting and Fibers, and a BA in Anthropology with a minor in Biology. she is hugely interested in the study of life, evolution (from micro to macro), and exploring the mysteries of creation. Aimee's studies in Biology and Anthropology really laid the foundation for her artwork, fueling the creative process. Like a scientist, she seeks to understand more about the world through her work. Her internal nerd loves to do research and to learn - feeding a need for a constant intake of ideas and information in order to generate new work. Each painting has its own complex story that develops over time. Every object in her work is in motion, creating a constant flux of movement and interactions. Aimee's paintings grow over time in a layering process. She starts with water-based media and then add drawing (using vintage drafting tools, Rapidograph pens, acrylic ink on mylar, Spirograph), collage with Polycrylic, and ultimately oil paint. She likes to incorporate things like insect wings, thread, or collage from antique books. As for her method - building a painting requires a balance between spontaneity and deliberation.
Bright, saturated colors and surreal, playful forms characterize her work. She can not deny the influence of cartoons on her art! She loves cartoons and animation because they are perfect ways to illustrate imagination, and imagination is the heart of creativity.
